What about Gold Sovereigns

What is a Gold Sovereign?

Collins English Dictionary gives us a few definitions:--
  1. Noun.
    A person exercising supreme authority, especially a monarch.
  2. Noun.
    A former English gold coin worth one pound sterling.
  3. Adjective.
    Supreme in rank or authority;
    a sovereign lord.
  4. Adjective.
    Excellent or outstanding;
    a sovereign remedy.
  5. Adjective.
    Of, relating to, or characteristic of a sovereign.
  6. Adjective.
    Independent of outside authority;
    a sovereign state.

Basically a sovereign is a gold coin. The first gold sovereign was minted under Tudor King Henry VII in 1489.
There are many types of sovereign coins, the most popular for investors and collectors are the Gritish gold sovereigns. N.B. There are also gold coins and sovereigns produded in modern times (Canada, USA, Australia).

British sovereign 'kings' minted during the reigns of Edward VII and George V are probably the most widely owned and recognised pre-1933 gold coins.

Gold sovereigns hold their value very well, as a valuable minted commodity as well as the historical aspects. Because these types of coins are so valuable and recognised instantly by collectors all over, there have been many instances of forgeries, good quality forgeries that are even hard to spot by experts. Free Gold

Now this is cool. The following organisation 'Ounce of Gold' is offering a free gram, yes a gram, not an ounce - which is their ultimate goal (but not yet feasible) to every person on the planet. Obviously one of the attractive alternatives to physically buying gold bullion and storing it under your house/safe is to buy and sell gold on-line. This way you let someone else worry about the headache of storing, securing, insuring, protecting.

Ounce of Gold has partnered with
BullionVault to make this possible, who own tons of gold in international vaults world-wide to facilitate this promotion.

There are obviously a few small catchs. The first, is the gold is not physically given to you, its actually kept in an on-line account. The idea is they contribute to your holding/collection of gold by helping you to get started.

First of all you need to set-up an account at BullionVault.

Once you are set-up, then you are free to buy and sell gold. You can't take your balance when you go, unless you have topped up your account with funds since their promotion.

I'm going to have a go, will let you know how it goes. Its a good idea, Gold is not going out of fashion anytime soon and is a reliable commodity to invest in or to own directly, which you actually do in this case via an online account.
